End of Life Care in Medford, MA

The level of difficulty that we face when a loved one is in their final stages of life is beyond words. You want more than anything for the caregivers surrounding the individual to be as compassionate and loving as possible in order to maintain a sense of dignity and comfort in these final hours. Visiting Angels in Medford provides professional, non-medical assistance for individuals and support for families during the end-of-life phase.

Compassionate Care in the Final Stages of Life

We work alongside hospice care to provide comfort, support and relief to complement hospice services. Our caregivers serve as the "eyes and ears" for families to notice any changes that warrant intervention beyond non-medical attention.

  • Grocery shopping
  • Hospital-to-home transition
  • Laundry
  • Light housekeeping
  • Meal planning
  • Meal preparation
  • Repositioning and transitioning
  • Toileting

Call (541) 773-5002 to request more information about our end-of-life care services. You can find some peace of mind amidst this agonizing time knowing that Visiting Angels are trained on what to do if an adult passes away under our care, and to follow specific protocols that enable us to respond compassionately, helping your family through next steps.

End of Life Care vs Hospice

There are a couple key differences between the End of Life care that Visiting Angels provides versus hospice nurses. First, hospice providers are qualified to administer medications whereas Visiting Angels home aides do not. Second, unlike our end-of-life care, hospice doesn't pursue treatments to cure the illness but instead focuses on easing pain and supporting emotional needs. Lastly, Medicare plans can pay for hospice care, but not end of life home care.

While we do not provide medical services, it is important for you to know that our management team communicates frequently with hospice care professionals to provide essential services to support your family through your loved one's final days.

End of Life Care vs Palliative Care

With palliative care, our caregivers provide services to anyone living with a serious illness, no matter what stage they are in. This could be the very day of the diagnosis or the last few weeks of life. Palliative care helps individuals live more comfortably with their ongoing health conditions but End of Life care is meant to support people near the end of their life.

For guidance on what type of care you need, or to learn more about End of Life care services, please reach out to a care coordinator at Visiting Angels in Medford now. A member of our team will reply within 24-48 hours.
