Veteran Benefits and Home Care

Most veterans are not aware that their VA benefits can cover in-home care for them and their spouse, which can greatly reduce or even eliminate the cost of home care. This allows the aging veteran can get the help & care they need while remaining in the comfort of their home, instead of moving to an assisted living facility.

What Is Covered with Veteran Home Care?

Veteran home care can include a variety of home care services available to aging seniors in the area. Our experienced, compassionate caregivers can assist seniors with activities of daily living (ADLs), including:

  • Private Duty Care – which can include using the bathroom, personal grooming, bathing/showering, and getting dressed.
  • Mobility Assistance – to help you move around the house, and provide support with walking or getting around
  • Meal Preparation – preparing & making nutritious meals that will last a week.
  • Light Housekeeping – to keep your home tidy and help with some chores around the house
  • Transportation Services – help you get to and from appointments or run errands
  • Companionship – provide friendly conversation & engaging activities to keep your mind sharp and avoid feelings of isolation and loneliness
  • Respite Care – giving a much-needed break for family caregivers.

At Visiting Angels Northwest Arkansas, we create a personalized care plan that's tailored to each veteran's needs, goals, and preferences. Then we match you with one or several of our caregivers who will be warm, friendly, and more than capable of caring for your needs.

What Veteran Benefits Can Be Used for Home Care?

There are two distinct programs offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs that can cover in-home care.

  • Aid & Attendance Program – The VA Aid and Attendance benefit is for qualifying veterans & their spouses who are homebound or need assistance with activities of daily living.
  • Community Care Network – A program run by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Community Care Network allows veterans to receive care from additional providers if the VA cannot provide the care themselves. This can include in-home senior care for veterans.

Visiting Angels Northwest Arkansas is approved to provide care to veterans through both the Aid & Attendance program and as part of the Community Care Network. Our team knows can provide assistance applying for these benefits and get you started on veteran home care near you.

How Do I Know If I Qualify for Veteran Home Care Benefits?

The qualifications for veteran home care benefits depend on the program, the level of in-home care you require, and your status within the Department of Veteran Affairs. Generally, if you are already receiving a VA pension or benefits, and you require assistance for daily activities (bathing, dressing, grooming), you likely will qualify for veteran home care benefits.

How to Apply for Veteran Home Care Benefits in Arkansas

Applying for veteran home care benefits can be confusing and take a while to get approvals. It involves filling out some forms, getting a VA doctor's referral, and providing other evidence.

At Visiting Angels, we’re here to help you navigate the application process and access the care you deserve. We can guide you through applying for benefits, working alongside Sebastian County Veterans Services to ensure you get the support you need.
