Visiting Angels West Springfield is an approved care provider by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that offers non-medical home care for eligible veterans through Veterans Benefits programs. Veterans in Hampden County can receive financial assistance through VA benefits to afford in-home senior care services provided by Visiting Angels West Springfield.

Who Qualifies for Veteran's Benefits?

Veterans may qualify if they meet the following criteria:

Served in the active-duty military (Air Force, Navy, Army, Marine Corps, Space Force, or Coast Guard) and were not dis-honorably discharged
Served in the Reserves or National Guard and were called to active duty through a federal army and completed the full length of duty

What Are the Types of Programs Available to Veterans?

VA benefits offer financial assistance for home care to veterans through two programs:

Aid and Attendance program

The VA Aid and Attendance program helps to provide access to in-home senior care for veterans and their spouses who need help with daily tasks or who suffer from a disability or illness. Through Visiting Angels West Springfield, veterans who require help with daily living from another individual can receive help with everyday tasks if they are bed-bound, live in a nursing home, or have limited eyesight. Tasks include bathing, eating, cleaning, and memory care. Veterans who receive a pension through the VA can have benefits added directly onto their pension. 

Homemaker and Home Health Care Aid program

The Homemaker and Home Health Care Aid program helps veterans only to receive assistance with everyday tasks with the help of a homemaker or home health aid. Visiting Angels West Springfield provides eligible veterans with help around the house which allows for those who prefer to stay in their homes rather than live in a separate facility. These benefits are paid directly to the partnered organization. 

How Do Families Apply for the VA Benefits Programs

Option 1: Contact your local VA representative -  Find your closest VA representative (see list down below) for help applying and answering questions.

Option 2: Visit your local VA clinic or medical center - See a doctor to be recommended for VA benefits (See list down below.) Select Visiting Angels West Springfield as your provider once you are approved and the VA will fax the authorization over. Then, you'll be contacted by a Visiting Angels office staff member.
