Karen Martin is the founder of Visiting Angels - Great Lakes Bay. Karen had been a Registered Nurse (RN) since 1980, graduating from Delta College. During her career, Karen worked in numerous hospital settings in the Saginaw area. Karen also worked as a Certified Case Manager (CCM) and Home Health Nurse before opening Visiting Angels in 2000. The Great Lakes Bay office was the very first location to open in Michigan.
Karen’s mother had Parkinson’s Disease, and she knew that her parents would need help in the home. Karen knew their wish was to stay in their home with assistance as opposed to moving to an assisted living or senior community. Karen’s parents were able to live out their lives at home with in-home help from Visiting Angels caregivers.
It was around 2017 that Karen’s three sons started to notice some changes in their mother. Karen was unfortunately diagnosed with Dementia in 2017. After a couple of years of battling with Alzheimer’s/Dementia, Karen ultimately passed in April 2020. Karen loved being a nurse and helping others during her almost 40 years as an RN. Her legacy continues through our business with the objectives Karen always expected from Visiting Angels, such as excellent client care, superior customer service, and loving support for all clients and employees.
Doug Hammond joined his mother, Karen Martin, in the business back in 2007 and is now the President/Administrator and also a second-generation owner-operator. Doug has a Management Degree from Northwood University. Doug has also completed training and earned a designation as a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA).
