Meet the Staff at Visiting Angels Frankenmuth

Karen L. Martin - Founder


Karen Martin had been working in the healthcare field since 1980 and established Visiting Angels in the Great Lakes Bay Region of Michigan in January of 2000. Despite Karen passing in April 2020 after battling dementia, her legacy of helping others will continue for many years to come through her Visiting Angels family.


Douglas A. Hammond - President/Administrator

BBA, CSA Certified Senior Advisor

Doug has been with Visiting Angels since 2007. Doug started as the Operations Manager and is now President. Doug handles many Administrator tasks as well as marketing, public speaking, and working with clients and caregivers.

Doug graduated from Northwood University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree focusing on Management. To better understand senior issues and their needs in 2013, Doug took and passed the Certified Senior Advisor course. The knowledge learned in the CSA class has assisted Doug in helping families find the resources or get the referrals that they need.

Doug also serves on the Alzheimer’s Association Saginaw Walk to End Alzheimer’s board since 2013 and also volunteers for the Alzheimer’s Association as an advocate working with state and federally elected officials.

Heidi Bernreuter BBA - Office Manager

Heidi began with Visiting Angels in 2002 and has a been key resource in the Visiting Angels office since starting. Since joining Visiting Angels Heidi has had many different jobs tasks. Currently Heidi handles all payroll, billing, scheduling and many other functions.

Heidi is a Northwood University Alumni with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Major of Management/Marketing.

Spending time with family is where you will usually find Heidi.

Kathryn (Kay) Krajkowski, BBS - Client Care Manager

Kay began working with Visiting Angels in 2014. Kay came to Visiting Angels with a background in Management and a strong commitment to families.

Kay is a Western Michigan University Alumni with a degree in Sociology.

Kay also serves on the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s committee. She has served as chairperson of the committee from 2011 – 2014 and 2016-2020.


Alexander Scott - Office Administration

Alex Scott joined the Visiting Angels team in March 2017. Alex is currently in charge of recruiting and interviewing quality caregivers so we can assist as many clients as possible. Alex joined Visiting Angels with two years of experience as a caregiver for those with special needs.

Alex is an Alumni of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Master’s degree in Adapted (special) Physical Education.

In his free time Alex enjoys relaxing with family, playing golf, watching and attending sporting events.
