At Visiting Angels of Gilford, we provide both end of life care and palliative care as two separate entities. Many caregivers look at care through a small lens, only focusing on the client’s physical needs. At Visiting Angels of Gilford, we understand the importance of addressing emotional, social, and spiritual needs as well and address all of those issues through our program. Rather than only focus on physical needs, we educate our caregivers to cater to the client’s emotional, social, and spiritual needs as well. The aspects of age, illness, and disability can affect a senior throughout various aspects of their lives. When caregivers don’t address all of their client’s needs, they don’t improve their client’s quality of life. We strive to help our clients maintain their inner comfort, and at the same time, stay in the home for as long as possible.

Our Holistic View in Action

The best way to understand our holistic view of care is to witness it in action. Below, are four ways that our caregivers would cater to a client’s needs:

• Physical: If the client is dealing with physical ailments such as reduced strength or mobility issues, our caregivers would provide mobility assistance and prioritize keeping their client as comfortable as possible.
• Emotional: If a client is exhibiting signs of depression, anxiety, or another mental illness our caregivers would approach them with a warm and compassionate demeanor. They would never disregard their feelings.
• Social: Our caregivers always provide companionship and conversation to their clients, especially if there are disabilities and illnesses that get in the way of their social life. Additionally, our caregivers can schedule quality time between the client and their friends and family. This could be anything from in-person videos to Skype calls.
• Spiritual: Our caregivers would help the client navigate the spiritual challenges that they may be having with their age, disability, or illness.
