Caregiver Spotlight: Dakota M.

Before coming to work as a caregiver for Visiting Angels last year, Dakota was a CNA in Maine. She found Visiting Angels while searching online. Dakota currently balances a full schedule of clients while also attending nursing school.

Her love of the population and appreciation for everything she can learn from them is what Dakota likes the best about her position. She talked about the importance of being your "best self" with clients to help build rapport. Show a genuine curiosity for them and their lives and find a common ground to help make a connection.

When asked about the most challenging part of her position Dakota talked about some of the differences between homecare and working in a facility. In homecare you need to acclimate to the client's home when first starting with someone new- and you need to rely on the client to help direct you on their routine, what they like and don't like. In a facility, it is a more familiar environment for the caregiver.

Fun fact about Dakota is that she always has a giant purse or bag with her that has enough stuff in it to basically prepare her for the end of the world. Learn more on how you can join Dakota and the rest of our team!
