Cost is almost always the second question families ask, right after "what can you actually help with?" It's a fair question, and you deserve a straight answer before any commitment. Here's how in-home senior care pricing works at Visiting Angels of Raleigh, and how families across Wake County make it fit their budget.
We're a private-pay agency. That means no insurance middle-man setting your rate, but it also means we'll walk you through every option to reduce out-of-pocket cost, including long-term care policies and veterans benefits that many families don't realize they qualify for.
Call 919-787-4317 or contact us for a no-cost estimate tailored to your loved one's situation.
What Does Home Care Cost in the Raleigh Area?
Hourly home care rates in the Triangle typically land in the high $20s to mid $30s per hour, with the exact number driven by schedule, acuity, and hours per week. Genworth's annual Cost of Care study is a good reference point for national and state averages.
The actual number you pay depends on:
- Hours per week
- Type of care
- Schedule
- Duration
During the free in-home consultation, we build a plan based on real hours and real tasks, and you'll leave that meeting with a clear weekly and monthly number.
How Families Pay for Home Care
As a private-pay agency, we don't bill Medicaid or Medicare, and we don't accept private health insurance. Most of our families combine one or more of the following:
- Long-term care insurance. If your loved one bought a policy years ago, it likely covers a meaningful share of in-home care. We handle the paperwork directly with most major carriers and can review the policy with you so you know what's eligible.
- VA Aid and Attendance. Veterans who served at least one day during a qualifying wartime period, plus surviving spouses, may qualify for a monthly benefit that covers hundreds or even thousands of dollars of care. See our veterans benefits page for the eligibility breakdown.
- VA Community Care Network referrals. Care referred through the VA CCN is covered under the referral.
- Out-of-pocket, paired with a tailored plan. The single biggest lever on cost is scope. A family that asks for 40 hours when 20 well-placed hours would do ends up paying twice as much for the same outcome.
Not sure which payment options apply to your situation? Call 919-787-4317, and we'll sort through it with you in about 15 minutes.
Why In-Home Care Often Beats Facility Costs
Families often assume assisted living is cheaper than keeping mom at home. That math breaks down quickly once you factor in memory-care surcharges, medication-management fees, and the level-of-care adjustments most facilities tack on every few months.
A few reasons home care comes in lower for many Wake County families:
- You only pay for the hours you actually use. A facility's monthly rate doesn't shrink on the days your loved one is independent.
- No room, board, or facility overhead. They're in the home they already have.
- You can flex up or down. Need respite care for ten days while you travel? Add it. Mom's broken wrist healed and she needs less help now? Pull back.
- True one-on-one care. In a facility, a staff member is often assigned to six or more residents. Your caregiver is assigned to one person: your loved one.
