National Superhero Day

Every year on April 28th, National Superhero Day honors superheroes both fictional and real. Our real-life superheroes may not have superpowers or wear capes - but they do wear wings! We are thankful for our real-life superheroes - our Angel caregivers and all essential health care workers - today and everyday!

Our staff celebrated in spirit today, whether working in the office or remotely from home, by wearing our favorite fictional superhero gear.

Celebrating Thanksgiving in the Office!

Every Thanksgiving, members of our office staff come together for a potluck lunch. This year we had a great spread of pies, sides, and main dishes. Thank you to everyone who contributed to our feast - we are so very thankful for our family of Angels!

Recognizing Those Who Served this Veterans Day

Our Homecare Consultant, Jennifer, had the pleasure of escorting PFC John R. Coates to Patuxent River Health & Rehabilitation's Veteran's Day Celebration.

John enlisted in 1942 and volunteered as a medic in Co. C of the 508th, 82nd Airborne. His first jump was Market Garden, where he supported the 508th in their attach on the bridge at Nijmegen. After that he was also in the Battle of the Bulge, he was a medic in C Co. when they took the town of Holzeim, Belgium and captured 90+ Germans.

John's friend, 1st Sgt Leonard Funk, gave him his .45 to guard a German doctor, a German patrol attacked from the rear, freed the 80 German POWs, and captured several Co. C men. John was fortunate to not be captured. Later in the battle John was seriously wounded, while helping care for wounded paratroopers who ventured into a minefield. He was discharged in December 1945

Baltimore Washington Medical Center Gala

Visiting Angels of Millersville attended Baltimore Washington Medical Center Foundation's signature fundraising event, The Power of Caring Gala!

We celebrate “The Power of Caring” to acknowledge the impact of University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center's exceptional medical care as well as the everyday acts of kindness, care and compassion from community members.

Dementia Live Training

Our Homecare Consultants completed Day 1 of Dementia Live and are one step closer to their certification! This certification will allow them conduct workshops at facilities, doctor’s offices, and senior centers just to name a few.

The workshop simulates what it is like to have dementia thus giving us a better understanding of what our clients are experiencing. Some of our Visiting Angels team had the opportunity to experience every day activities that people with dementia struggle with.

To temporarily alter their sensory abilities, they wore specially developed and tested gear while in the Experience Room. Knit gloves were worn to diminish the sense of touch and fine motor abilities, eye wear worn restricted peripheral vision, and distorted sounds and noises played through headphones all to simulate what it could be like to live with dementia.

Team Building Tuesday!

Every Tuesday we have a themed day.

To participate (and get to wear jeans to the office!) we each donate $1 towards the fight to End Alzheimer's.

On this Tuesday, our theme was 'Flannel'.

Walk to End Alzheimer's at Centennial Park

September 28, 2019

Saturday September 28th we participated in Walk to End Alzheimer's at Centennial Park! Elyse, our Homecare Consultant for Carroll County walked for her Mother and shares her story...

"I walked with my sister in memory and celebration of my Mother, Lise Szparaga, who lost her battle with Alzheimer’s 9 years ago. As a Director of Nursing, my Mother directed and provided care for countless people that suffered with this disease.

With every hand she held, every word of reassurance, and every prayer she prayed with her patients, she made a difference - no matter how big or small. My ability to strive to make the same difference for others every day through my position at Visiting Angels, is truly a blessing for me.

I have the ability to honor my Mother’s memory with every new face I meet, every new hand I myself hold, and ultimately through the care we are able to provide. Alzheimer’s may take the best of our loved ones but it can never take away their legacy."

6th Annual Fashion For A Cause benefiting Chesapeake Kids

Our Anne Arundel Co. Care Coordinator, Colleen Conrad, and her friend, Alex Bland, had a wonderful time volunteering at the 6th Annual Fashion For A Cause benefiting Chesapeake Kids. If you would like to become involved please visit www.hospicechesapeake.org.

The organizers, Hospice Hundred, hoped to raise $100,000 for Chesapeake Kids, which are services of Hospice of the Chesapeake. The group raised slightly more than $60,000 last year.
