Steven came on board with Visiting Angels Newton/Canton in February 2015. Steven was described by Case Managers who interviewed him as experienced and dedicated to his work. He presented himself with a calm demeanor and confidence.
Steven, a former accountant, arrived in the United States from Uganda in 2012. He joined his sister and her family who reside here in Massachusetts. Steven has a wife and three beautiful children back in Uganda whom he Skypes with daily. He is committed to providing for his family and works tirelessly to ensure they have what they need.
Steven learned about becoming a CNA through friends at St Peters Church of Uganda Boston in Waltham, where he is a member. He enjoys spending time with friends and playing soccer for recreation (weather permitting) when he is not working. Steven is considering pursuing a degree in nursing, specializing in geriatric care. He notes that his motivation each day is through his strong work ethic and general care of others. “All is possible in life, through persistence, you can overcome challenges. Passing judgement and being unkind to another holds you back.”
Steven has provided home care services for several clients with special needs, from brain injuries to dementia, as well as other medical complications. He is a great advocate for his clients and has outstanding communication skills, providing information to clients, their families, and Visiting Angels staff regarding in-home care. Steven puts forth exceptional effort and precision in all tasks with his clients, including his exceptional housekeeping skills – which clients regularly compliment.
Steven is currently working with a client who has dementia. The client’s wife was initially hesitant to accept a male caregiver but agreed to “try it out”. When the case manager followed up with the client’s wife, the wife stated that he was great. They were so impressed with his care, that they requested Steven accompany them on a one-week vacation. The client’s wife has described Steven as responsible, exceptionally caring, kind, attentive, and having a great sense of humor.
