Betie began working with Visiting Angels Newton/Canton in August 2016. During her interview, Betie was described by Case Managers as extremely experienced, caring, confident, and a very good communicator. It was predicted that Betie would be a “future Angel of the Month.” Happily, here we are awarding Betie Angel of the Month for May 2019.
Betie was born in Haiti and came to the United States with her brother when she was 14-years-old to live with her father in Nyack, New York. She thrived in high school, playing for the school soccer team, and graduated with honors. Betie enrolled at Spring Valley Community College for Computer Science and this is where she met her husband. They bought a house, Betie had her son, and she was a stay-at-home mother until he was three. She took classes to become CPA (pharmaceutical assistant), and HHA certified and began working in nursing homes. Betie had her daughter soon after and lived with her family in upstate, New York until 2017 when she and her children moved to Massachusetts. Betie became CNA certified as well as trained as a med-tech. She has over 14 years of experience in health and in-home care.
Betie’s son is in college, working towards a degree in computer science, and her daughter plans to take a year to study theology and then pursue her degree in nursing. Betie also intends to go back to college after her daughter graduates high school - for her LPN license. Betie is very involved at her church, attending services, bible study, and volunteering. She spends as much time as she can with her children and enjoys reading whenever possible, and loves to clean to de-stress. Betie is devoted to living a spiritual life and growing as a person. She believes in treating people with kindness and the importance of caring for others.
Betie’s first Client with us was delighted with Betie’s care and stated to her Case Manager that she was a lovely person and a joy.
Betie began working with her second Client, in April of 2018 and has been with him ever since. He has several health issues, including speech and ambulatory challenges. Betie’s Client knows right away if he will feel comfortable with someone. Betie’s positive and calming demeanor quickly won him over. They have developed a strong bond in the past year.
Her Client has 24-hour care with Visiting Angels Newton/Canton: Betie has helped out immensely by accepting fill-ins when other Caregivers on his team have called out. She is currently working additional hours for him while another Caregiver is on maternity leave. The two enjoy long conversations together about their families, religion, and memories of the past.
Betie describes herself as naturally compassionate and caring. She loves helping others, and it truly shines through in her professionalism, knowledge, and work with her Clients.
