Caregiver Activities

Visiting Angels of Brookfield, CT encourages our caregivers to partake in our weekly activities with their elderly clients. This is an essential part of an elder’s quality of life because it allows seniors to engage in physical, social, and creative activities. This is great for all clients but can be a huge factor to assisting clients who have dementia, anxiety, or depression.

There are two options for activities that caregivers can utilize for their seniors to allow them to engage in social and mental stimulation. Aides can either come into our Visiting Angel of Brookfield, CT office and have the staff assist them in putting together an activity bag or join us for our Active and Engaged Program every Thursday. Creating an activity bag is great for seniors who have a favorite hobby like sewing or board games. If you want to get your client out of the house rather than do an activity, we also offer weekly Active and Engaged Programs at Visiting Angels of Brookfield, CT from 1pm-3pm.

How Seniors Benefit from Activities

There are plenty of positive outcomes for seniors who choose to partake in social activities and hobbies:

Enjoyment: seniors often look forward to the activities and feel like they belong.

Cognitive Health: for clients with dementia or Alzheimer’s, activities that stimulate their social and mental abilities can help maintain their health for longer.

Social Interaction: elders have the chance to meet with others their age and join in on conversations that they often would not be able to have, which can reduce the feelings of isolation.

Reinforces Value: activities can help seniors feel important because they can relate to the roles they performed in the past.

How Caregivers Benefit from Activities

The great news is that these activities are also a wonderful opportunity for caregivers to engage with others in their field:

Relationship Building: having you and your elderly clients join in on activities is a great way to bond and maintain relationships.

Change of Pace: it is always nice for a change in scenery and doing an activity can feel more like a break rather than work!

Enjoyment: activities are not only fun for seniors, but there are also plenty of options when putting an activity bag together and aides have the opportunity to pick something they both can enjoy doing.

Reduce Challenges at Home: engaging in activities with seniors, especially ones with dementia, can improve their behavioral issues, making it easier to care for them.
