Our caregivers are hired only after completing an extremely rigorous screening and interview process. We hire only experienced, Caregiver Companions or Certified Nursing Assistants. They are compassionate, caring individuals who enjoy providing this valuable and personal service. We seek those who are committed to elder care as a dedicated profession, not just trying to fill a gap in employment. Our caregivers are respectful, understanding, and good at integrating into home environments under conditions that are often difficult for families.
In last year’s employee survey, 100% of our respondents said that not only would they refer our services to potential care recipients, but they would refer our organization to other caregivers.
Visiting Angels Hiring Process We put prospective caregivers through an intensive hiring process. First they are screened with a survey to assess their qualification for an interview. Those who pass the survey are interviewed by our Human Resources Coordinator, with an intensive focus on learning “their story” and hearing real-life examples of their experiences caring for seniors. We are looking for empathetic individuals with a pleasant demeanor, strong character, and appropriate communication skills. If a prospective caregiver passes this interview, he or she is interviewed by at least one of our Client Service Coordinators.
Prospective caregivers who make it through these evaluations have their credentials verified and references checked. Once they pass this step, we perform a criminal background check. Finally, we schedule them for an in-depth orientation session and administer the drug screening.
All caregivers are our Visiting Angels W-2 employees, NOT independent contractors. Caregivers are fully bonded and insured (workman’s comp/liability) by the company and we manage all payroll and payroll-related tax requirements. This eases the administrative burden for clients and eliminates the risk of IRS issues or other legal issues that often arise when families choose to hire a non-agency private duty caregiver or registry.
Background Checks All caregivers undergo extremely rigorous background checks. The following checks are mandatory for all caregivers:
Caregiver Training and Reviews
Caregiver Matching
We take great pride in the warm, wonderful relationships that develop between our caregivers and care recipients. That’s why one of our first priorities is to take each client through our personalized caregiver matching process.
Based on detailed information from our discussions with you, we carefully identify a set of possible caregivers who we feel most closely meet your needs and schedule. We then arrange an introductory meeting with the caregiver of your choice. If needed, we will introduce you to more than one caregiver who we believe would be a good match. You make the final decision on which caregiver is right for you and your family.
Phone Check In and Out System
How do you know that your caregiver is providing care when they are supposed to be? Visiting Angels has a phone check-in and check-out system. Caregivers are required to clock in and out from the client’s home phone. We are aware of exactly when a caregiver arrives by that phone call. If the caregiver has not arrived within six minutes of a scheduled shift, all Visiting Angels administrative personnel are alerted by email and text message so that proactive measures can be taken to ensure that a visit is not missed.
